I'll Never Be Gnomeless Again

We have two new additions to the Lagniappe family.  Meet our new friends, the gnomes:

They don't have names.  Yet.  I think they're absolutely adorable, if I do say so myself.  The girls picked their colors, and we used the pattern from Wee Folk Art.  Biggest bang EVER for a few minutes and maybe a buck!  Ella didn't like the stitching around the edges in the original examples (she said they looked like kings' crowns and capes), so we went plain and simple with these.  I think I like them better this way.  Of course, I'm sure we'll have some royal gnomes join the clan one day.  And you can bet there are some lovely valentine gnomes coming to visit in a couple of weeks . . . maybe with some glittery love fairies.  Hmm . . . I think I smell a new craft obsession.

Oh, and just for fun, here's the owl I made for Ella, because she kept asking for Harry Potter's owl.

Yes, the owl looks a little like a duck.  I would have preferred brown or maybe even gray, but I could only find yellow in the pipe cleaner stash.  Still, she was very pleased, and he likes his perch on the tree blocks.  And, of course, this inspired an entire afternoon of the girls making flowers, dragons, and all sorts of other pipe cleaner creatures.  Bonus!

  1. so much fun!
i have got to go check out those gnomes--my girls would LOVE them.

  2. They were so much fun to make, April. My girls helped glue on the body felt and cut the felt pieces, but my oldest was upset that she couldn't sew the hat and cape. The pieces were just too small for her fingers and she hasn't had enough sewing practice to manage it yet. But I'm sure older kids would have a lot of fun helping out with this project!

  3. Oh, SO cute!! Do you remember the gnomes I dressed with sweaters and hats? Once you learn to knit and you have leftover sock yarn, you will know what to do with it. ;) My kids like to undress and then dress again, so clothes that don't come off just wouldn't fly with them.

btw, it's snowing here again. so far we have a couple inches of "dusting."

  4. Ooh, I do remember. Neither of my kids are really into dressing dolls or anything else, so glue works here! ;)
