Weekend Goodness

Guess what we did this weekend.

 We read.  A lot.

Then we bought some wood.
Thanks to Ana White for the idea to use cedar pickets instead of hardwood.  Cheaper and I got me some red cedar now.  Yee-haw!

Instead of standing out with the drunks at the Mardi Gras parades, we spent Saturday afternoon building a beautiful 2'x8' garden box.  Oh, and she's definitely a beaut!

Next came the seeds.  There are more than this, but I just wanted to show you how I store them.  We had all of these old plastic picture things that go in binders, and the seed packets fit in the PERFECTLY.  I'm so excited.  I can keep all my extra seeds and our plans and notes all in one place.
Awesomeness.
Oh, and after a lot of frustration, I have decided that I am ordering seeds next year.
'Nuff said.
I'll have pictures of the final project later.  Crappy weather is settling in tonight, and I didn't want to put the poor seeds out to suffer on their first night all alone, so I'll take a nice picture of the box with all the garden markers (courtesy of Ella) later in the week.

  1. We are starting a big garden unit for this month and some of the next. I am reading the same book as you, "One Magic Square".

  2. I really enjoy the Square Foot Gardening one better (less wordy, more pictures, efficiency at it's best . . . what can I say, I come from a long line of engineers), but I gave this one a shot since the other copies were all checked out. I enjoyed it, but we won't be purchasing it. LOVED the kid-friendly plants book shown up there!
