This is pretty much how you'll find Ella on any given day.  Exploring the backyard, sketch book in hand, bag for collecting treasures on her shoulder.  We've been reading up on Leonardo da Vinci (part of our Renaissance studies) lately, and she's really digging him.  I mean, what's not to love, right?  But the girl's been channeling Leonardo for as long as I can remember, and it makes sense she would connect with him.  Nature lover, scientist, artist . . . the guy was even a vegetarian.  Yesterday we talked about sketching the things you discover in nature, and taking the time to get the drawings right (my choleric kid does have a tendency to just "get it done" most days), and she's really taking to it.

We'll be painting more, too, as we learn more about da Vinci.  Good thing I hit our JoAnn store's moving sale when I did . . .

Cha-ching!  I am so not a shelf-clearer, but for 75% off Strathmore, I make an exception.  :)

Not to be outdone, my other explorer wanted to show me her find.

Yes, that's a clover flower. Fall here is a very confusing time.  More on that another day.

Also, proof that we do still have a very old but still mostly mobile dog.  A girl's best friend.

And now I have to run.  I think I might pull out a sketchbook of my own today . . .
