Nope, not a dalmatian. Lightning is our adopted blue heeler/jack russell mix, and he is just about the best dude ever. He was a bottle fed baby and loves to snuggle, but he's also ridiculously smart. He's six months old, house and crate trained, plus he knows several commands and picks up new ones quickly. Ella's looking forward to agility training. I'm thinking I might have a new administrative assistant. Or at least a garden hand.
But the transition is not without issues. He quickly attached himself to me, making his training easier, but he's not used to living with kids and all the loud noises the little ones can make. He's very friendly with them, but he does growl at all of their random noises, especially when he's tired or half asleep. And he's having some separation anxiety. That's ok. We're all willing to put in the time and effort it's going to take to help all of us through this adjustment period. I figured the summer would be a good time for it, rather than in the midst of school work and activities.
Forgive me if I'm absent for the next few weeks. In addition to the dog transition, I'm also planning for next year (trying to do as much as I can now to avoid the dreaded Sunday night scramble every week), and I'm planning a big blog revamp. Stay tuned . . .
