The subject of gratitude has been on my mind a lot the past few months.  I'm making the effort to be mindful of all those wonderful little moments I take for granted.  It doesn't make the crappy ones any less crappy, but  I refuse to spend so much of my time focusing on those anymore.  So.  I'm going to focus more on the positive.  Crowd out the negative.

I've started a little gratitude list in my planner each week.  This week, I'd like to share some of those bits from my most recent list with you all:

  • watching my crew on Father's Day morning, the kids deconstructing old walkmans & broken dvd players while dad browses through this
  • full weekends at home with my family
  • sharing the old Dungeons & Dragons cartoons with my kids
  • Moleskines
  • a month of no spending (only absolute necessities) to get our budget back on track, reminding me of the things that are really important, and how much stuff we don't need

Taking a few minutes to reflect on the good from the week and absorb the positive energy around me.
Hopefully building up a shield to deflect some of the stress that builds up throughout the days that follow.

  1. Yup, I try too. It's harder some days than others. I used to find it so easy to notice and give thanks for little moments all throughout my day. I have to work at it a bit more lately.

I'm grateful the whip-poor-will is back. I love hearing him.

  2. Good idea. It is far too easy to get bogged down in all the difficult stuff and forget the things that keep us going. Also, we've been watching the D&D cartoons with the boys- they're hooked! :)
